The buses were received ahead of schedule, and will begin serving riders on Friday, August 30th.

Thursday, August 29th, 2024 – Members of Town Council gathered today to celebrate the arrival of two new, 16-passenger transit buses. The new buses give the transit service an instant upgrade. Riders will enjoy improved accessibility, added comfort, and greater reliability. Originally scheduled to be delivered in late fall, the buses arrived early and will begin serving transit customers Friday, August 30th.

The town was awarded funding for the buses through an application submitted last year to the Public Transit Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. The funding stream supports new transit networks, service extensions and active transportation infrastructure. The program awarded the town $168,000 federally, and $139,986 from the province of Nova Scotia. The Town of Yarmouth contributed the remaining $143,795 for a total of $451,781.

“We know the tremendous importance of everyone having the ability to get out and about the Town for everything from medical appointments to grocery shopping and meeting friends.  Thank you to both the Federal and Provincial Governments for the funding that allowed us to purchase two beautiful new buses.  This was an easy decision by Council to budget for these vehicles that we know will be welcome by the community, and used to up the quality of life here for so many.”
 - Pam Mood, Mayor of the Town of Yarmouth

"The arrival of the new 16-passenger transit buses in the Town of Yarmouth will enhance the daily lives of residents by providing improved accessibility, comfort, and reliability in public transit, meeting the diverse needs of the Yarmouth community."

“Making public transport easier and more accessible for people is an important part of our move toward a cleaner, greener future. It helps us reduce greenhouse gas emissions and gives people a more affordable option to get around.”
