The historic property has been transferred to Land’s End Arts & Culture Society for $1 with hopes of it becoming an anchor for arts and culture in downtown Yarmouth.
Wednesday, February 11th, 2026 - Yarmouth, Nova Scotia — The Town of Yarmouth and Land’s End Arts & Culture Society are pleased to announce today that with the transfer of 341 Main Street to Land’s End completed, the new owners are pushing forward with their plans to make the property an anchor for arts and culture in downtown Yarmouth. The completion of the sale followed approval by Town Council at a public hearing held in December and returns the property — recently transferred to the Town from the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (AGNS) — to active community use for the arts.
The historic building is an important piece of infrastructure on Main Street and will receive a new life in the hands of Southwest Nova’s newest arts organization. Land’s End is committed to preserving 341 Main Street as a permanent home for arts, culture, and community activity in Yarmouth and views the transfer as both an opportunity and a responsibility to protect an important historic building while ensuring it remains an active, accessible cultural space for all residents and visitors.
The society will use the space to support exhibitions, including collaborations with other galleries. There are plans for performances, workshops, and arts-inspired events that showcase local artists, artisans, and cultural producers, while also creating opportunities for collaboration with local chefs and creatives. Early programming is already underway, including a Valentine’s and Mardi Gras–themed fundraising event on February 14th and the opening of the Centre’s first exhibition in February, featuring local artist Anne Cain.
The Town thanks Land’s End for its stewardship and enthusiasm for taking on the property, and thanks community members for engagement during the public hearing process that led to Council’s decision. Land’s End looks forward to working in partnership with the Town of Yarmouth to strengthen downtown vitality, cultural tourism, and community-led cultural development.
“This building has long been a cornerstone of Yarmouth’s cultural life. Our Board is committed to preserving it for arts and culture while expanding its role as a vibrant, welcoming space for exhibitions, events, and community gatherings. This transfer allows us to honour the building’s history and build a future that supports local artists, celebrates creativity, and brings people together.” - Joanne Ranson, Board Chair.
"When the Town of Yarmouth took ownership of 341 Main Street, the goal stood consistent with the Town's downtown blueprint plan: to develop an arts and culture hub for our community. That would be done by ensuring it was placed in the hands of a dedicated group with passion, energy and a vision. We are excited to see what Land's End Arts & Culture Society will do in bringing the vision to life. Aside from growing and celebrating our rich arts and culture community, most important is that this space and all it does is shared with and accessed by everyone in the community to generate both economic and social growth. We're excited for what's ahead!" - Town of Yarmouth Mayor, Pam Mood.
