The Town of Yarmouth launched a public survey earlier today to gather residents’ input on the impacts and potential benefits of allowing off-highway vehicles (OHVs) to travel on designated Town roads.
Tuesday, September 29, 2026 – Yarmouth, N.S. – The Town of Yarmouth launched a public sur-vey earlier today to gather residents’ input on the impacts and potential benefits of allowing off-highway vehicles (OHVs) to travel on designated Town roads. OHVs include a variety of motor-ized vehicles, such as ATVs, dirt bikes, and side-by-sides.
Water Street was designated as a road trail in 2023, connecting two established rail trails. Since then, the Town has been asked to consider opening additional streets to OHV use to provide ac-cess to local businesses and services. The survey will help Town Council better understand community experiences, concerns, and perspectives as it considers the future of road trails in Yarmouth.
“We know residents will have different perspectives on expanding OHV access in our communi-ty, and those perspectives matter. Our experience on the one street where OHVs are currently permitted has been positive, with no issues to date, but that doesn’t mean we should make as-sumptions about expanding or not expanding access. This survey is about listening to our resi-dents, keeping an open mind, and making sure any decisions we consider reflect the community we serve.” – Mayor Pam Mood
