New shelters increase safety and accessibility for residents, funded through a federal program
Town of Yarmouth Completes Installation of New Accessible Bus Shelters
07/30/2026 — Yarmouth, N.S. — The Town of Yarmouth has substantially completed a project to purchase and install five new bus shelters and supporting infrastructure to improve accessibility and safety for residents, including people with physical and visual impairments. The project was funded through the Government of Canada’s Rural Transit Solutions Fund, as well as contributions from the province of Nova Scotia, and the town of Yarmouth.
The work includes five shelter units, concrete shelter pads, solar lighting for improved evening visibility, and display space for transit and community information. The tender was awarded to Daytech Limited for $92,596.50 last fall, with work getting underway in May of 2026. Four shelters have been installed so far; a fifth will be installed later.

- Main Street at Freshmart
- Main Street at RBC
- Main Street at Coronation Park
- Pleasant Street at the Korean War Memorial
- Yarmouth Regional Hospital (delayed by construction, to be installed later)
- Concrete shelter pads and solar lighting added for safety and visibility
- Display space provided for route and community notices, art displays
- Tender awarded to Daytech Limited: $92,596.50
