Tooies

Tooies has such an eclectic range of products, there’s a bit of something for everyone. The founders started out offering a craft-making class out of a convenience store in Brooklyn back in 1993. They soon noticed that people would rather buy the crafts than make them themselves, so they chose to become craft curators instead – opening up their shop just across the street from The Grand Hotel not too long after.

Their wares grew from just crafts, to include clothing, jewelry, home decor items and all-natural lotions and soaps – all from high-end brands, like Alex and Ani, Chameleon, and By the Sea to name a few.

They get their fair share of tourists, given their location, but it's truly the locals that have kept them successful for so many years. Their neighbours come back again and again, because there's nowhere else to get such a unique collection of products under a single roof.

What’s the secret to your success?

Watching the trends. We have a wonderful selection of local and regional jewelry, and our entire collection is carefully selected.

What inspires you?

The local people. They're so good to us...The tourists, what we get, we’re grateful. But we wouldn't survive – it’s the local people that support us.
