Notice of Public Hearing

A Public Hearing will be held on Thursday, February 9 at 6:30 pm with Council.

The public can register to speak at the meeting, or hand in written submissions. Registrations to speak and written submissions must be received no later than 5:00 pm on Tuesday, February 7. To register to speak, or provide a written submission, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or call (902) 742-8565.

What is the hearing about?

The hearing will address two separate applications as follows:

1. Dark Sky Policy - Land Use Bylaw Amendments

The Town has initiated amendments to the Land Use Bylaw to implement a Dark Sky Policy. These amendments add new requirements for exterior lighting, with the goal of reducing light pollution in the night sky.

How will this affect me?

These amendments apply to new construction or exterior renovation of commercial, high-density residential, industrial and institutional developments, including Town-owned land and infrastructure. These amendments do not apply to low density residential developments such as single detached or semi-detached dwellings.

2. Accessory Buildings in Residential Front Yards - Land Use Bylaw Amendments

The Town has received an application to amend the Land Use Bylaw to allow residential accessory structures to partially extend into the front yard under specific conditions.

How will this affect me?

These amendments will provide greater flexibility by allowing an accessory building to be located partially in the front yard if the lot size or access constraints make it impractical to locate the accessory structures in the side or rear yards.
