Please take notice that the Town of Yarmouth’s new Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw officially came into effect today, October 21, 2026.

The new planning documents update the Town’s framework for growth and development and include policies and development regulations covering a wide range of topics, including housing, commercial development, institutional uses, industrial development, tourism, climate change adaptation, active transportation, servicing, and many more.

The development of these documents occurred over a period of two years and included extensive analysis and community engagement. This culminated in a formal Public Hearing and Council adoption on July 9, 2026.

Pursuant to Section 208 of the Municipal Government Act, the documents were reviewed by the Provincial Director of Planning and the Minister of Municipal Affairs for compliance with the Act, Statements of Provincial Interest, and regulations made thereunder. The Minister has approved both documents, with amendments. To learn more about the amendments, review the Ministerial letter here.

Concurrent with coming into effect of the new Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw, the Town of Yarmouth Municipal Planning Strategy 2016, Town of Yarmouth Land Use By-law 2016, and all amendments thereto are hereby repealed.
