Wednesday, March 10th, 2021 - Yarmouth, N.S. – Paper parking permits in the Town of Yarmouth will soon be a thing of the past. On April 1st, the Town will introduce HotSpot, a service that allows the purchase of parking permits online or by using a Smartphone app. With the new service, customers will be able to purchase parking passes for two-hour parking lots from the comfort of their own home or while on the go by using the HotSpot Online Dashboard.

On April 1st, monthly and daily permits will be available for purchase online or by using the app. Customers wishing to prepare ahead of this date can register and create a Hotspot account today. Once April 1st arrives, simply login to your account to purchase your virtual permit. While paper passes (hang tags) will no longer be available for purchase, customers may still register and obtain virtual passes in person at Town Hall. Paper permits will be honoured until May 1st. The Hotspot app is available for Android on Google Play and for iPhone on the App Store.

How does Hotspot work?

Customers will need to register with HotSpot providing their name, contact information and vehicle license plate. Once registered, customers then select their permit and pay using secure credit card or Visa/Debit. A Hotspot membership is not required to buy permits. A convenience fee is added to the purchase of permits through the HotSpot system. The fee is $0.50 for daily permits, and $2.00 for monthly permits. NOTE: no fee is added for in-person transactions at Town Hall. Future online purchases will only require registered users to login and purchase additional permits.

How will enforcement work If I don’t have a hang-tag?

You will no longer need a hang-tag once Hotspot virtual permits are in place. Beginning April 1st, parking enforcement staff will scan the license plate of your parked vehicle into a mobile device to validate your virtual permit.

What if I have more than one vehicle?

Customers with more than one vehicle can add multiple vehicles to a single account. This provides flexibility to park different cars on different days, much like changing your hang-tag from vehicle to vehicle when required. To do this, simply login to the HotSpot Online Dashboard or HotSpot Mobile App and change the vehicle tied to your permit for that particular day. However, it’s essential that the passholder ensure the license plate selected is the same as the vehicle parked to avoid unnecessary parking infractions. The permit holder is responsible for ensuring this information is up to date at all times.
