Water delivered by the Town of Yarmouth Water Utility is regularly tested by an independent lab, and its own lab at the water treatment facility, to ensure it meets the Canadian drinking water quality standards. Today's testing requirements from the provincial government require water utilities to also collect several samples directly from consumer taps.
The Yarmouth Water Utility is seeking water customers to take part in its drinking water sampling program, testing for lead and copper. Participation is free and voluntary, and will provide you with information on lead and copper levels in your tap water. In addition, it will help to determine the water utility's compliance with Health Canada's new drinking water guidelines for lead and copper. Testing is carried out each year, May to October.
PLEASE NOTE: only a select number of applications will be accepted each year. Priority is given to properties that, according to existing records, may have a full or partial water supply line made of lead, and/or properties of an age where a full or partial lead line may exist.
