First Tender Awarded for Ferry Terminal Redevelopment

With Graham Construction of Yarmouth as the successful bidder, roofing and demolition is underway at the International Ferry Terminal

First Tender Package Awarded for Ferry Terminal Redevelopment

GrahamWednesday, February 19th, 2020 - Yarmouth, N.S. – The Town of Yarmouth recently awarded the first tender package for phase I of the redevelopment of the Yarmouth International Ferry Terminal. The tender, which closed January 30th, was advertised provincially on the Nova Scotia procurement website and awarded to Graham Construction of Yarmouth.

Phase I of the terminal redevelopment will be broken into three distinct work packages. This first construction package comes off the heels of months of important preparatory work that included testing, underwater investigations, design configurations, and key consultations with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Bay Ferries Ltd. (BFL). Now that immediate priorities have been identified, Graham Construction’s job over the next 2.5 months will involve both construction and demolition at the site.

The focus of this work will be the installation of new roofing for the main terminal building and demolition of the passenger gangway and stevedore building, which are no longer required or will be replaced in the new configuration. Graham will also perform an investigation of all current window lintels to determine which will require replacement.

All work for this initial project is scheduled to be completed by April 30th and will not interfere with regular operation of the ferry service.

Graham Surette, Owner and Operator of Graham Construction, had the following to say about taking on the project. ”As a resident just up the street from the terminal and a contractor serving the Tri -Counties for the past 32 years, I realize how important this link is to Nova Scotia. So, needless to say we are extremely excited to have been chosen to complete this phase of construction at the terminal and look forward to the US link getting underway soon.”

Details on subsequent work packages including specifics on work to be completed, timing for each project, and the issuing/awarding of tenders will be announced in future media releases. This project is the first phase of renewal of the Yarmouth Ferry Terminal, addressing immediate priorities. Subsequent phases will be required to complete the full redevelopment of the terminal.
