Yarmouth is currently actively promoting three key sectors: Fishing, Retail, and Tourism. Beyond that, the rise of digital and media services and entrepreneurs within the town represents an exciting emerging industry.
As the centre of extensive fishing activity, the industry is vertically integrated and involves businesses manufacturing inputs such as boatbuilding, net manufacturing, bait preparation, lobster trap manufacturing, rope manufacturing and manufacturing of packaging materials; repair services, provision of goods and appropriate insurance, financial and legal support. The industry also involves the processing of harvested products and transportation to markets.
Yarmouth is a regional retail and service hub for southwest Nova Scotia. The Town has a variety of government offices and offers a variety of financial and business services to provide for the regional population.
The Town of Yarmouth is the entry point to Nova Scotia and Canada through the international ferry service from Portland, Maine, through the Killam Bros. Marina for boaters and the international airport. Yarmouth maintains an office of Canada Border Services for entrants to Canada. The town is also home to one of the major Nova Scotia Visitor Information Centres and the Nova Scotia Tourism Contact Centre.
