Municipal Planning Strategy

Nova Scotia's Municipal Government Act allows municipalities to control the development of land by means of Municipal Planning Strategies, Land Use By-laws, and Subdivision By-laws. Parts 8 and 9 of the Municipal Government Act are the key sections devoted to Planning and Subdivision.

A Municipal Planning Strategy is a statement of Council’s policies for growth and development of the municipality.  The Municipal Planning Strategy consists of policies, text and maps, while Land Use (zoning) and Subdivision By-laws provide the regulations required to implement the policies of a Municipal Planning Strategy.
