Local Legions Receive Tulip Bulbs

This morning at Town Hall, members from three local Royal Canadian Legion branches were on hand to receive some Liberation75 tulip bulbs for planting.

Last month, Yarmouth hosted "Blooms by the Sea", the 2019 Communities in Bloom National Symposium and Awards. The event was a smashing success, and a highlight moment took place when the Town was gifted with 5,000 tulip bulbs as part of the "Liberation75 Commemorative Planting Campaign". This important campaign celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands. The goal is to cover the country in 1.1 Million Liberation75 Tulips in honour of the 1.1 million Canadians who served during the Second World War.

This morning at Town Hall, members from three local Royal Canadian Legion branches were on hand to receive some of these bulbs for planting. Town Councillor and Communities in Bloom Chair Wade Cleveland presented 100 bulbs each to the Yarmouth Legion (Branch 61), the Wedgeport Legion (Branch 155), and the West Pubnico Legion (Branch 66).

In an effort to ensure the Town of Yarmouth does its part in reaching the Liberation75 goal, all 5,000 bulbs will be planted in town or given to local legions, schools, and the Veteran's Place Seniors residence at the Yarmouth Hospital.
