Yarmouth & Acadian Shores is pleased to have been chosen to host team Denmark for their pre-tournament training camp.
(Hebron NS, Feb 24th, 2020) — Some of the best hockey players in the world will be competing in Halifax and Truro next month during the 2020 IIHF Women’s World Championship. Before official competition begins some teams will be holding training camps and pre-games in communities around Nova Scotia. Yarmouth & Acadian Shores is pleased to have been chosen to host team Denmark for their pre-tournament training camp.
Town of Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood is excited to welcome these international players and is pleased the region can play a part in the IIHF Women’s Worlds Championship.
“This community loves hockey and we have the facilities to host events like this so I think this is perfect to location,” said Mayor Mood. “We’re pleased to play a part in this major sporting event in Nova Scotia. I’m excited to see what these amazing athletes can do. A big Yarmouth welcome to team Denmark!”
Team Denmark is expected to be in Yarmouth from March, 23rd to the 29th and will have on-ice practices an one pre-game against Saint Marys’ University at 1:00pm on March, 27th at the Yarmouth Mariners Centre.
Neil MacKenzie, Executive Director for the Yarmouth & Acadian Shores Tourism Association hopes to work with the local women’s hockey program during the event.
“We’ll be reaching out to our local women’s hockey program for help us host team Denmark. We want to see our female hockey players learn as much as they can from these international athletes and hopefully get a chance to interact with them.” said MacKenzie. “Its a great opportunity for young players to see high-level women’s hockey. And of course, we love welcoming
international visitors too”.
