Hands on Crafts
There’s just something special about handmade items that you can’t get from a factory. The people at Hands on Crafts have dedicated the past 18 years to providing you with locally crafted items, as well as the supplies to make your own creations.
With supplies for crafters interested in knitting and crocheting, soap making, jewelry making, and rug hooking, Hands on Crafts sees all kinds walk through their doors. Step inside and see what it’s like to create with your bare hands.
What is your signature product?
Our finished crafts. They’re all made by local crafters – some by us, some by others in the area. Our soap-making supplies are a close second though. It’s hard to find the oils around here, so we actually have people driving a couple of hours to come here and buy soap-making supplies every couple of months.
How did you get started?
Six of us decided to open a crafting store years ago because the original ferry was coming. We were all crafters, and we thought it would be nice to have a store to sell our crafts in, as well as supplies for other crafters. There are still three of us running the business now, all these years later.
What should people be sure to look at before they leave your business?
Just make sure to really, truly look around. Sometimes people just pop in and glance around from the doorway before deciding we don’t have what they’re looking for, and you really miss out if you don’t come into the store and walk around. There’s a lot of stuff in a lot of corners, and you never know what you could be missing out on if you don’t take the time to check.
