The water utility has always been of great importance to the Town of Yarmouth, ever since 1879, and is just as important today. In 1879, the Yarmouth Water Company was incorporated to provide Yarmouth with water. The Town of Yarmouth thought it important to make sure its citizens always had fresh water. So in 1891, the Town of Yarmouth bought control of Lake George and the distribution of water from the Lake George Water Company. This began a long history for the Town of Yarmouth and their concern for water quality and supply. There are current plans to continue upgrading the water utility system.
