Room Levy PDF Print E-mail

The Town of Yarmouth and the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth have enacted by-laws which require a room levy of $2 per night to be collected by hotel and motel operators with 20 rooms or more on rooms that are rented. The amounts collected are set aside in a special fund to assist with incremental marketing of Yarmouth & Acadian Shores. It is administered by the Town of Yarmouth, and is overseen by the room levy committee.

The room levy committee is comprised of one representative per property collecting the tax, as well as the Mayor of the Town of Yarmouth and the Warden of the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth.  The CAOs, the Tourism Development Officer of YASTA and CEO for the South West Shore Development Authority are resources to the committee.

Activities undertaken by the room levy committee include, but are not limited to:

  • Branding of Yarmouth & Acadian Shores
  • Print marketing campaigns
  • Internet marketing, including www.YarmouthandAcadianShores.com
  • Travel writer program
  • Trade Show attendance
  • Special Event sponsorship
