As part of Canada’s national police force, the Yarmouth Detachment of the RCMP is committed to promoting safe homes and safe communities. The Detachment responds to approximately 4000 calls for service annually dealing with a wide range of complaints from traffic violations, assaults, drugs, and many other Criminal Code investigations. The Detachment consists of 19 regular members, 5 auxiliary constables and 3 support staff. The county of Yarmouth is covered by our Rural Detachment which is just within the town limits and is home to many of our specialized units, Forensic Identification, Drug Unit, Major Crime Unit, Western Traffic Services, Clare/Yarmouth Street Crime Unit, Police Dog Services and the Integrated Border Enforcement Team. Royal Canadian Mounted Police Community Policing/Crime Prevention The Yarmouth RCMP are involved in many community organizations like the Yarmouth Minor Hockey, Yarmouth Big Brothers & Big Sisters, School Advisory Councils and Yarmouth Special Olympics. As well, through the year, Yarmouth RCMP officers volunteer with events such as the annual Seafest Parade, Yarmouth High School Graduation, Burridge Campus Graduation and Remembrance Day Ceremonies. Community Programs and initiatives that are available: Adopt-a-Library Literacy/Wow Reading Program - This program is offered by the Community Policing Officer who had partnered with the local library in providing this program to all elementary students in the Town of Yarmouth. The program promotes community policing through social development, fighting crime one book at a time. Anti-Bullying - This initiative uses a combination of presentations and videos at the elementary schools to discuss bullying, its effects and ways to prevent it. Auxiliary Constable Program - Auxiliary Constables are unpaid community volunteers who receive specialized training and support regular members in operational policing duties. Buckle Up Bears Program - Child Restraint Inspection Program - The Yarmouth RCMP formed a partnership with the Co-operators Insurance company to bring this program to our communities. Inspection clinics are held by community volunteers who have received training and conduct these free inspections to the families in Yarmouth. A number of RCMP members are trained inspectors and provide their time to this community-based initiative. Club Drugs " The Real Deal" - A substance Abuse Program provided to all grade 11 students at the Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School. This program gives the students factual information and the consequences/effects of recreational drugs, presented by the Community Policing Officer.
D.A.R.E. - Drug Abuse Resistance Education - The Yarmouth RCMP and the Tri-County Regional School Board offer the ten-week D.A.R.E. Program to all grade 6 students at the three elementary schools in the Town of Yarmouth. D.A.R.E. is an internationally recognized program which provides the youth with valuable information and skills needed to live drug and violence free. Elmer the Safety Elephant Program - This is a bicycle safety education program that is designed to teach children general bike safety and rules of the road. This program is delivered by the Yarmouth Community Policing Coordinator in the schools and the parents place " Ready Set Go Program." Fatal Vision "Goggles " Program - A anti-DWI (driving while impaired) program, in partnership with the Yarmouth Rotary Club, is provided to all grade 10 students at the Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School. This program is delivered by the Community Policing Coordinator. M.A.D.D. (Yarmouth Chapter) - The Yarmouth RCMP are pleased to partner with the local chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Joint projects include the Red Ribbon Campaign, The Walk for Strides for Change and the Multi-Media Presentations to the youth of the communities. Restorative Justice - Bringing Restorative Justice To Schools - The Yarmouth RCMP support the new and promising approach to using restorative practices within a school setting. This is a innovative way in dealing with school related discipline issues/minor offences. The Yarmouth Community Policing Coordinator is a board member of the Tri-County Restorative Justice Society. Police Services


The RCMP Detachment covers the Town of Yarmouth and provides a variety of law enforcement and community-based policing services to the citizens of the Town of Yarmouth and those that access the community as a service centre for South West Nova Scotia. The RCMP are dedicated to preserving the peace and protecting the lives and property of the residents of this community.
Crime Prevention Association - The RCMP works closely with the Yarmouth Town & County Crime Prevention Association ( YTCCPA ) to promote awareness through education and forming partnerships within the communities to help reduce crime opportunities. The association supports a variety of projects/initiatives including D.A.R.E./Seniors Safety and the Child Safety Coloring Book. The YTCCPA meet monthly on the last Wednesday of each month (excluding Dec., July/Aug.) at 7:00 pm at the Yarmouth Superstore community room.
