The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is appointed by Council. It is the CAO’s role to assist Council in setting the direction of the Town by providing guidance and advice based on best practices and emerging trends in municipal government. He works closely with his counterparts in other municipalities, as well as with both Federal and Provincial government officials on a variety of issues affecting the Town of Yarmouth.
The CAO directs and co-ordinates the general management of the business affairs of the Town, in accordance with the by-laws, policies and plans approved by Council, to ensure the delivery of quality services and facilities.
The CAO is responsible to ensure that programs and services are developed and implemented to meet the ever changing needs of the community, while ensuring fiscal responsibility.
About Jeff Gushue
Jeff Gushue commenced his duties as Chief Administrative Officer on March 22, 2004. Prior to taking on this position, Jeff had thirteen years of municipal experience. He served as the Director of Leisure Services for the Town and Municipality of the District of Yarmouth from 1996 until 2001, the Recreation Director for the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth from 1989 until 1996, and the Recreation Director for the Town of Annapolis Royal from 1988 to 1989.
In addition to his municipal experience, Jeff worked as the Project Coordinator (2001 to 2004) for the Yarmouth Stroke Project, a research project dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by stroke and their caregivers.
He holds a Master of Business Administration degree, as well as an Arts degree in Recreation and Physical Education.
