green_binsAs the global need for a clean eco-friendly and green environment grows, the Town of Yarmouth is doing its part to make sure “our little world” is a clean green little part of the bigger picture.  We are doing this because we know that even though we are small we still have a significant impact on the environment as a whole, good or bad, depending on how we use our resources.

To that end, we try our best to balance commercial, residential  and green space along with monetary and personal resources to accomplish this and other goals.  There are 2 keys which best make this work.  Trying to incorporate green space into residential and commercial space is one key.  Everybody doing their part to clean and maintain all three types of spaces is the other key.  The Parks, Grounds, and Trees Department is doing their part to keep the property owned by the town clean and maintained.  Additional staff are hired during the summer months for the Green Team.  This consists of 2 -3 returning students.  It is the Green Team's job to pick up the litter and help keep the sidewalks and public areas owned by the town clean.

Another way that you can do your part besides composting, recycling, and disposing of household garbage properly is to take part in the Adopt-a-Block program.  Adopt-a-Block begins in late spring and takes approximately a few hours to a weekend to complete.

The objective of Adopt-a-Block is to help clean up the litter that has collected over the winter months.

The annual Adopt-a-Block program is a spring litter pick-up campaign where businesses, residents, and not-for-profit organizations can adopt a street, a block, or perhaps just a portion of a street.  This program can make a difference in the town by cleaning any area of the town that needs a little attention, and picking up litter that has accumulated over the winter.  By doing this, we demonstrate to everyone that we are proud of our community and the need for all of us to do our part to keep it clean.
